Today's mood shifted from chill to exciting because we went to La Jolla Shores! It was a cloudy morning when we trudged out of our suites packed with beach bags and sunscreen on our faces. When we arrived at the beach, everyone rushed to the warm beige sands and into the vast blue ocean. Everyone was splashing, playing, and strolling along the sidewalk. We even visited some stores: pizza, cafés, ICE CREAM ... the food is so good there (Scoops is a good ice cream store). Then, the sun finally came out, and the rays caressed our faces as we continued having fun.
Today was our first full day of Machine Learning. We started off the day with our morning lecture. After a brief review of what we learned last week, and a small lecture on the Decision Tree machine learning method, that we briefly went over last Friday, we went over the KMeans method. During our break, we also played some Bocce Ball, which was a lot of fun.
During the lab, we got our groups for our first machine learning project. We got started on a practice data set, about classifying Wine varieties using the KMeans and Decision Tree methods. While it was a bit confusing putting what we learned during the lecture to practice, after a bit of time, we all got it.
Today was the first day we got to work on our Ethics video. After a quick review of the rubric by Shirley, we spent the rest of the lecture time working on our videos.
During the lab, we had more time to work on the project we started on Monday. As we explored the data, and the various methods we'd been taught, the TAs went around helping all of us.
During our lecture, we tested our brains by learning about K-NearestNeighbors and Logistic Regression, two types of models that help with classification in supervised learning. There was a LOT of math involved, but Professor Sahay helped us all understand it really well.
In our lab time, we got more time to work on our iris classification lab, where we used 4 different features to classify different flowers. Then, we presented our findings to all our cluster mates, TAs, and teachers + professors.
Today, we had time to finish up our Ethics videos. Most groups wrapped up their projects, adding finishing touches to make them the best they can be. Mrs. Miranda also announced the winners for the Iris Project. Congratulations Sumedh and Bisman for People's Choice, and Samarth and Emmy for Faculty Choice!
In our lab time, we started our Census projects with new partners. Now, we have to use KNNs and Logistic Regression to classify people into differeny salary brackets.
