Monday began with a lecture, where we explored the current trend for ocean acidification using models and the specific details that relate to it, such as the factors of cause like CO2 emissions, the pH scale, and the oncoming implications. After the lecture, in the afternoon, we continued with a lab where we built an electrolytic cell by building a circuit which we attached to rods in order to titrate a solution. Our goal was to create standards using an HCl titrant in a process called coulometry.

On Tuesday, we met in the science communications room to discuss our final projects. We went over the components of a good presentation to include and began brainstorming and working on our project slideshow/powerpoint to present on the final day. We worked in our project groups: Solar Cell, Enzymes, Biodiesel, Sea water, and One-Pot-Polyol. After lunch we went to our labs to work on collecting more data for our projects in order to match the time frame and complete more experimentation.

On Wednesday morning, we went to the lecture hall and began by building a small, observable, windmill. We collaborated in small groups of four in order to figure out how to construct it, and how it truly works. After doing so, we continued into lecture where we discussed how both windmills and solar energy work, and then the pro and con implications of both correspondingly. It was extremely educational and eye-opening as we learned more about the specific factors as to why people make the decisions to adopt either form of energy. After lecture, in the afternoon we continued into lab where we did a titration using pH where we used HCl to manipulate the pH of seawater from around eight to 3.5, and then from 3.5 to 3 using a fixed incriment of HCl each time.
