MEET THE CLUSTER:
MONDAY 6/7/25:
TUESDAY 6/8/25:
On Tuesday morning, we had our first Science Communication lecture. Emmanuel (our Science Communication Prof) started by having us do mini-activities to get to know each other. These included the name game, where we had to name all the other people in the cluster, and a snowball fight, where we wrote down what we were excited and nervous about for COSMOS. Next, we learned all about the ethics project competition that is coming up, as well as presenting tips like keeping an open mind.
In the afternoon, we began our Karel challenge project. This is where we had to use our learning and practice from the previous day to create our challenges in Karel. Everyone was very creative in creating their projects! After some relaxation in our suites, we headed down to Stonehenge to begin planning our COSMOlympics skit.

THURSDAY 6/10/25:
On Thursday morning, we got to visit the famous Geisel Library! Our lecturer, Teri Vogel, explained the fundamentals of researching information in articles and published documents using the UCSD Library Website and Google Scholar. This will help us prepare for our final ethics project. We then researched some topics in the awesome library. After heading back to the CSE building, Emmanuel gave an insightful lecture on ethical dilemmas surrounding AI, talking about the differences between utilitarianism and deontology. We were then given time to research our ethical dilemmas related to our cluster topic with our new project groups.

In the afternoon, we went back to the CSE computer lab for an afternoon of hard work. We met up with our new partners to work on some harder challenges using Python; we had to utilize some new skills we learned from Wednesday's lecture. These fundamentals will help us on future projects. We also attempted some challenges revolving around image manipulation by using "Pillow".
