Meet at the Cowell Haybarn by 8:45 am. Wear closed-toe shoes that you won't mind getting dirty and bring water to stay hydrated throughout the day.

LAUNCH Student Success is designed to build understanding, with a structured process of how our mind works, and how we can control the way we think to achieve success in any part of our lives that we desire.

Various workshops. Topics will be shared at a later date. Review the titles and descriptions for each session and select which one you will attend. There will be a capacity limit on each room of 20 people. So have a back up option in case the session you select is full.

Talking about tips and on-campus resources on how to perform well in STEM classes and how to overall set yourself up to graduate on time or early.
Surviving and Thriving in Dorms: The Art of Roommate Harmony
For those embarking on their first experience living with roommates, in communal spaces, or on their own. Going over tips for building positive relationships, managing shared responsibilities, and creating a personal sanctuary. Exploring different ways to foster a sense of belonging, pride, and validation in your new home. Connect with others, share experiences, and gain confidence in making your new living situation truly your own.
Starting your Scientific Journey
Will discuss what research looks like on campus and what types of careers you can have once you leave UCSC. Will highlight the various STEM research opportunities and programs that are available for students.

Explaining the pros of mentorship and introduce some black mentorship programs
Let's Talk About Money
Why is it hard to talk about money? Where can we go to learn how to make good financial choices? Students who attend this workshop will discuss how feelings about our "money talk" stem from our families, upbringings, identities, and structural racism; how financial silence and stress can impact our physical, mental, social, and academic health; and how prioritizing our financial wellness can help us reduce stress, do better in school, and improve relationships with friends and family. Students will also learn about the SlugCents Financial Wellness Program, an on-campus program designed to help students build financial knowledge and skills they need to feel more confident about their financial decisions.

Learn how to connect with professors and programs (e.g., STEM Diversity) that help undergraduate students gain hands-on research experience. I will share my own research experience as a transfer student.

Introduce students to google calendar, its features, and how it can be useful for courses

How To Rest
Rest is radical. Rest is a necessity. Focusing on the concept of “Radical Rest,” this workshop provides some tools to assist with resting, especially in a capitalistic world where Black and working class people of all walks, are pressured to always be working. Includes recipes for easy to make self-care products i.e. lip + foot scrub, and quick, nourishing meals.
Building Community at UCSC
We plan to highlight various student groups, clubs, and resources for connecting with peers. We'll also share mental health and well-being resources, focusing on how students can find support during tough times, such as counseling services or peer support groups. The goal will be to emphasize how creating a strong support system on campus will be their best tool in creating a successful college journey.

Ghana: Power in Connecting the African Diaspora
BMA Alumni would like to share the importance of connecting to the Continent (Africa) from our personal experience of traveling to Ghana. We would like to emphasize the impact, self-realization and revolutionary change that can be achieved by building bridges between African-Black people globally.
Get Out the Vote with Santa Cruz Black: Your Vote is Your Voice!
Educational workshop, designed to introduce incoming Black freshmen and transfer students to the importance of civic engagement through Get Out the Vote (GOTV) efforts and the critical role of Ethnic Studies in safeguarding our democracy. This session will empower students with historical context and practical insights to actively participate in preserving their rights and freedoms- while fostering a strong sense of belonging within the UCSC Black community.

We will talk about how to get research opportunities on campus. How to navigate conversations with professors and getting a better understanding of why research is important. And share my personal experience on how I got my research opportunity with PARF. There will be a detailed guide on how to add , remove , and change courses in our student portal.

Navigating College Life Melanated
What college life is like when you are black attending a PWI. I wanted to emphasize that we stand out in a lot of spaces and how we should carry ourselves in said spaces. I wanted to highlight the resources and the organizations that are specifically geared toward black students. I wanted to talk about additional clubs and organizations to involve yourself in, how to apply for jobs, how to get around town, places to eat and have fun at, ways to let go of stress, etc
How to Navigate Financial Hardships as a College Student
All the resources UCSC has to offer when struggling with any financial situation: housing, food, etc.
