Richmond California is a large city in the Bay Area located on the eastern area of the bay near the well known city of Berkeley. This city once had a stronghold on industrialization and was regarded as one of the most beautiful cities in the Bay Area. The city's slogan is “Welcome to Richmond, The City of Pride and Purpose”. In recent years the city has not been doing the best. Rising crime rates combined with homelessness and drug abuse have become huge problems for the city of Richmond. These current issues as well as past issues have given the city an undeserving negative image problem as described in Thomas Butts Issue paper, “Negative Perceptions of Richmond California, Image Problem or Vision Problem ''. Because of these problems many programs have been instilled to protect and better the lives of those who live in Richmond. One of those programs being Healthy Richmond. The Healthy Richmond Hub convenes youth and resident leaders, community-based organizations, systems leaders, in the initiative to collectively advocate for policy changes to increase health equity and racial justice in the community. Healthy Richmond staff provides resources and opportunities for our partners to build their advocacy capacity, and supports them in keeping resident power building at the center of our work.
