YuJa is the media management system for UC Santa Cruz. YuJa can record, edit and host videos online. If your class has recorded lectures (either pre-recorded, or recorded in-class videos called Lecture Capture), you are watching those videos through the YuJa video player.
Students can also have their own YuJa accounts to create, store or share videos. Access your account by clicking on YuJa from the course navigation in Canvas, or at media.ucsc.edu.
Digital Scholarship can help with video production for assignments.
For troubleshooting or to report issues with YuJa, email yuja.help@ucsc.edu. Include the name of the course, the name of the video (or assignment/quiz), and any error messages or screenshots of the issue.
The YuJa video player has more features than other video players you might be used to.
There are standard video player controls: play/pause, volume, closed captions, open sidebar, fullscreen view, settings. Settings contains additional options for playback speed, thumbnail view, caption options, and more.
The sidebar features of YuJa include:
Index, or chapter selection
Slide selection
Closed captioning
Notes - you can add timestamped notes to any part of the video, they are only visible to you and you can download them

Some YuJa videos have integrated quizzes. This is how they work:
Play the video in Canvas. You can see how many interactions (questions) there will be in the video, and when they will be, on the bar underneath the video.
When a question appears, the video will pause automatically for you to answer. The question mark on the bar will turn blue to indicate it has been answered.
Once all questions have been answered, click Submit so that your answers are recorded.
