Welcome!

I am a phonologist, with interests in prosody, especially of compound words, and the syntax-prosody interface. Broadly speaking, I am interested in what the primitives of prosodic organization are, e.g., prosodic word, phonological phrase, etc., how prosodic phenomena can be used to diagnose prosodic structure, and the factors that can condition or affect prosodic structure, especially those which are not syntactic, morphological, or phonological, e.g., usage-based frequency or familiarity.

Much of my research focuses on Japanese, with a particular interest in lesser-studied dialects (compared to Standard/Tokyo Japanese), such as the dialects of the Kansai (Kinki) Region.

I am also interested in how linguistic theory can inform our knowledge of speech-language disorders and clinical practice in speech-language pathology and vice versa.
