Featuring: Jeff Kaiser, Alex Smith, and performances by percussion and technology students from the University of Central Missouri
In 2014, the University of Central Missouri became one of the first NASM accredited institutions to begin offering applied lessons for technology-based instruments (such as laptops and synthesizers) and traditional instruments that incorporate technology into their curriculum, alongside University of Miami and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. More recently, Berklee School of Music and MIT have made similar curricular revisions. In addition to applied lessons, UCM is also a national leader in integrating technology into large and small ensemble contexts, such as in the UCM Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensembles, New Technologies Ensemble, Percussion Ensemble, and other chamber groups.
Presented by Jeff Kaiser and Alex Smith, this workshop will cover a variety of ways UCM has successfully integrated technology into their music program including: syllabi excerpts, performances, classroom environments, senior capstone projects, juries, and more. The session will include live performance excerpts featuring UCM students. The goal of this session is to welcome and encourage a diverse group of students and music practices through a broader integration of music technology in Missouri music education.
