The International Seminar Linguistic approaches to Jane Austen's childhood, organised by the members of the project 'LModE Conceptualisations of Female childhood: Cultural linguistic investigations accross borders', will be a hybrid event and take place on the 5th and 6th May 2025 at Complutense University of Madrid.
The seminar celebrates Jane Austen's 250th birth anniversary and aims at exploring the silent years of the English writer's childhood through a linguistic lens. By focusing on childhood, the seminar intends to uncover new dimensions of the writer with deep linguistic analysis.
This event will create an international forum for researchers to share their work about Austen's formative years and its construction in discourse. Scholars in pragmatics, translation and cultural linguistics, among others, will present diverse perspectives to reflect on Austen's childhood and the influence of her significant others. This seminar will contribute to the understanding of the conceptualisation of childhood and the unveiling of Jane Austen's linguistic legacy.
Please note that registration to the seminar is free, but required. Those attending on-site and registering before 28th February will receive an early bird gift.
Certificates of attendance will be issued for on-site attendees.
Selected papers will be published in an edited volume.
