Three Phases of Learning

Phase 1: All Online

Students participate in 100%, full-time online learning. U City teachers will instruct students online four to five days a week. School buildings will be closed to students. The schools will provide technology for kids at home.

Phase 2: Blended Model

Cohorts of students attend school on differing days with health and safety precautions in place.

PreK-Grade 5: Students in Cohort A will attend in-person classes on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students in Cohort B will attend in-person classes on Thursdays and Fridays.

  • All students participate in virtual instruction on their days at home.

  • Students from the same household will be grouped in the same cohort to ensure they go to school buildings on the same days.

  • On non-in-school days, students will engage in online distance learning with University City Schools staff. Learning will be both synchronous (live instruction through online platforms) and asynchronous (independent online assignments). Wednesday will be reserved for asynchronous learning so teachers have time to reach out to families as needed and participate in critical professional instruction.

Grades 6-8: Students in Cohort A will attend in-person classes on Mondays and Tuesdays. Students in Cohort B will attend in-person classes on Thursdays and Fridays.

  • Students will have access to optional, monitored Distance Learning Centers at the school on days they are not scheduled for in-person classes.

High School: Students will be placed in Lion, Gold or Black Academy.

    • All freshmen will attend Lion Academy: full in-person instruction, Monday through Friday.

  • Some 10th-12th grade students needing additional support will be placed in Gold Academy: four days of in-person instruction and one day of distance learning.

  • Most 10th-12th grade students will participate in Black Academy: full distance learning with UCHS and Launch courses and teachers.

  • Students will have access to optional, monitored Distance Learning Centers to do their work on days they are not scheduled for in-person learning.

Key Points

    • Phase 2 blended model reduces the number of students in schools by approximately 50% to ensure physical distancing.

    • Families who do not feel comfortable with children returning to school buildings may remain in full distance learning (virtual).

Phase 3: Full Return

Students return to learning in the school buildings five days a week. The schools will make efforts to keep students physically distanced. Health department guidance on providing a safe, secure and sanitary learning environment will be followed.

What is Click Academy?

Click Academy is an alternative all-online learning platform for U City families. It's designed for kindergarten through 12th grade and managed by Project Launch, a virtual program created in Springfield, MO. Educators from Launch will provide most of the instruction. The deadline to chose this option was Aug. 1. Families who are enrolled in Click Academy can learn more here. Families who enrolled their child in Click Academy will have to fill out a form through their SISK12 account to complete the registration process. Any questions about Launch, email communications@ucityschools.org.
