Methodologies

There's a man named Hayao Miyazaki who told my story, in a special way. Every detail in which he told the story had a purpose.

You can see this by doing Visual Analysis. The way he frames my body in relation to the environment. The way he uses colors like red & blue to relate to specific themes. The way the movement and behavior of different characters represent our perspectives.

The Historical context was also very important to Miyazaki. Following ww2, Japan had rapid economic growth that led to severe environmental degradation.

Looking deeper into my story reveals the complexity of the world that is so hard for people to see. This approach relates to the theme of humanities, because it isn't trying to introduce something new. Instead, it shows how this reality has always existed since the Beginning of time. Our current society has been shaped by our past actions: Masculinity, Anthropocentrism, Industrialization, Capitalism. These frameworks are what Miyazaki has often critiqued because they are rooted in the past and holding our society back.

Thesis

In Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, our young female protagonist Nausicaa, the princess of the Valley, refuses to accept the separation between humans and the outside world. In fact, it is only Nausicaa who is able to unify these two worlds, saving everyone from dying and finally putting an end to the one thousand year misunderstanding. Miyazaki frames environmental catastrophes as a failure of capitalist and authoritarian human organizations. In contrast, his film suggests that the solution to these catastrophes is only attainable by humans who are able to truly understand their relationship with the environment.
