We have our hybrid CV/resume workshop TODAY at 4:30 pm! This is a hybrid event, so you can attend either in person or remotely. We have a guest speaker from the career Center hosting a CV/Resume Workshop coming to help out with scholarship/job/internship/grad school applications! We look forward to seeing you there!!!
Ian Horvath is the CEO and founder of Serva Energy, a nuclear innovation company, based in Tempe, Arizona, intensely focused on the development of smart and safe next-generation nuclear materials for health care and clean energy solutions.
A specialist in next-generation accident-tolerant fuels, Horvath leads Serva Energy with an eye toward transitional technologies that lead to improved nuclear safety, efficiency, and environmental sustainability under the urgent timeline of climate change. Applying Serva's technology, Horvath is pioneering a new reactor-based method to produce Actinium-225, an ultra-rare and effective medical isotope needed for cancer treatments and research, plus other rare and medically valuable isotopes.
Rooted in a resource-driven philosophy that centers on maximizing the tools and technologies currently available with as little harm to the environment as possible, Horvath believes nuclear innovation can provide powerful materials in the fight against cancer, help solve the climate crisis by dramatically reducing our dependence on fossil fuels, and make power generation safer and more efficient.
We'll welcome everyone to the group, talk about different committees and leadership opportunities within the group, announce upcoming events, and have a mini-seminar on the history and difficulties of plutonium science!
We'll have a mini-seminar by Makayla on the role of nuclear chemistry in inorganic synthesis! (We'll also have some snacks 😋)
We will hold elections for next year's officers AND a seminar on a fun surprise topic in nuclear by Kaneen!
Reminder to fill out the Google Form if you are interested in attending the outreach event next Friday!

We'll cover some general meeting logistics, have a mini-seminar on gamma rays & their detection and have some snacks.
John Keffer is UCI's Nuclear Reactor Supervisor and Facilities Director. Please join us to hear about his career before joining UCI at a nuclear powerplant and hear his fun stories about his work there.
Please join ANS@UCI to celebrate the end of the 2024 Winter Quarter! We'll have a presentation about a topic in nuclear science and technology followed by social time with snacks to celebrate the quarter and relax a bit before finals week 🙂
Please join ANS@UCI for our second meeting of 2024! In addition to our general meeting activities, we will be having a short seminar on the Hanford Site. Reach out to us (see Contact Us section) for the location :)
Please join ANS@UCI for our first meeting of 2024! We are excited to get to meet everyone, talk about some events we have planned, and for us to discuss more fun event ideas for this quarter! We have openings for all of those who want to get involved in planning events, but also feel free to just attend too. 😀
CRANE has the goal of teaching BIPOC, marginalized, LGBTQ+, and underprivileged/underrepresented students computational tools from the basics of python to advanced algorithms like Monte Carlo and Molecular Dynamics with a focus on applications to nuclear fission and fusion.
Many students from communities of color or marginalized communities did not have early access to computer education. This is due to many system inequalities. These students are then either not confident in pursuing computational science careers or are dismissed by professors and professionals. CRANE's objective is to teach these students from the basics of python to advanced algorithms currently used in modern computational research in an inclusive environment that promotes trial and error, hands on learning rather.

ANS@UCI continues to promote diversity by spotlighting BIPoC professionals in Nuclear and Plasma physics and engineering. We are proud to host Erica Salazar. Please come here her story and journey in becoming a Nuclear and Superconducting Engineer.
We would like to thank our presenters for giving their time to help us in our outreach efforts during these uncertain times. Without them, none of this would be possible. We hope to celebrate their stories and experiences as they resonate and inspire the next generation of STEM workers.
