WRN Barbados Project Site

Through USAID Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA) funding, CIMH is working with regional partners, the COMET Program, and the Hydrologic Research Center to implement a Weather Ready Nations project. The goal of this project is to enhance Barbados' capacity to support early warning and impact-based forecasting systems in order to improve planning, policy, and decision-making during high impact events involving storm surge and inundation, flash flooding, flooding, and landslides. Outcomes of this project will be shared with WMO members in collaboration with Oscar Arango-Botero, WMO Office for North America, Central America and the Caribbean, and Claudio Caponi, WMO Hydrology and Water Resources Programme.

A primary outcome of this project is the development of hazard, impact, and response matrices following WMO-No. 1150 WMO Guidelines on Multi-hazard Impact-based Forecast and Warning Services. These matrices will be authored during the course of several workshops involving key stakeholders in Barbados and the region.
