Problem
I chose this strategy because I teach 80% of my class alone and cannot always support every student. Also I believe if we are cultivating student agency, students should be able to figure things out on their own or learn how to advocate for themselves.
Hypothesis
If students use each other as resources then they will build agency by understanding themselves as learners as measured by their participation in the class parking lot.
Target group
I will have 2 target groups. One group will be my advanced students in my US section 4 ; J, Y, S, D, EV and ER. This group of students often finish their work quickly and have a lot to offer the class but often keep to themselves or distract others. Many students learn from them and they can also use the confidence boots in their abilities. While they know they do well, they are very insecure about their skills and often doubt themselves
The other group are students who struggle with attendance and often miss key instruction and support.
Planning & resources
Google Form to complete the prework
Baseline data
Classroom discussion and parking lot assignments
Measuring success
If the target students responded to the parking lot question and if they responded to another classmates response
Overall findings & impact
I was successful in solving the issue through group work rather than the designated space of a parking lot. My next step is to have every student present a recap for the previous lesson.
Actionable steps
If you want to use this strategy in your classroom, I recommend …
I would maybe introduce this as a class competition to invest kids in the parking lot.
