Dr. Weijun Shen is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. His research focuses on additive manufacturing and design for additive manufacturing, with an emphasis on functional design strategies to enhance the performance and utility of 3D-printed components.
Dr. Shen has published extensively on additive manufacturing, including studies on infill design optimization, warpage mitigation, acoustic and mechanical performance, and origami-inspired structures. Recent contributions focus on dual-function infill designs for mechanical and acoustic optimization and functional design for 3D-printed components.
He earned his Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, after transferring from a co-major Ph.D. program in Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Engineering at Iowa State University. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Automation with a focus on Manufacturing from Shanghai Polytechnic University.
Dr. Shen has a strong teaching interest in manufacturing courses, integrating both traditional and additive manufacturing techniques to prepare students for advanced engineering challenges. He is a member of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
