How do I upload a file or folder?


You can use the New button:

  • From My Drive, navigate to the folder where you want your uploaded file to reside, and open that folder.

  • At the top left of your display, click on the New button.


  • A dropdown list will appear below the New button. Move your cursor down to the type of item you want to upload, and click on that item type. A File Explorer window will pop up.




  • Navigate to the file or folder you want to upload, and click on that file or folder.

  • Click the Open button.




Alternatively, you can drag and drop a file or folder to upload it.

  • From My Drive, navigate to the folder where you want your uploaded file to reside, and open that folder.

  • If you need to, re-size the window which is displaying My Drive and position it so you can see your desktop, or open a File Explorer window to see the file or folder you want to upload.

  • Adjust the size and position of both windows as needed.



  • Click on the file or folder you want to upload, and drag it to the Google Drive folder you opened.

  • You can also drop a file into a folder which is located inside the folder you opened.


Helpful hints:

When you upload a file or folder to Google Drive, it uses part of your storage capacity, even if you are uploading to a folder which is owned by someone else.


You can upload different types of files:

  • Documents

  • Images

  • Audio

  • Video
