How do I share something?

Here's how to share a file or folder with specific people:

  1. Right click on the file or folder.

  2. Click on Share or Get link. Two dialogue boxes will pop up.

  3. In the Share with people and groups dialog box, add the email addresses of specific people you want to share your file with.

  4. Look to the right of the name(s) of people you are sharing your file or folder with, and select Viewer, Commenter, or Editor to set the privileges for people you are sharing with.

  5. Send an optional message to the people you are sharing with by checking the box next to Notify people and enter text in the Message field. If you don’t want to send a message, uncheck the box next to Notify people.

  6. Click the Send button.

Helpful tips:

People who have edit privileges can open, move files, organize, add, delete, edit content, accept or reject proposed changes, and share with others.

People who have commenter privileges can select text and record a corresponding message, but cannot make changes to the document.

People who have view only privileges can open the file and all files within a shared folder.

Here’s how to send other people a link to your file so anyone with the link can see the file:

  1. Right click on the file.

  2. Click on Share or Get link

  3. In the “Get link” dialogue box, click on Change.

  4. In the area showing who the link will share the file with, click on the down arrow.

  5. From the dropdown list, select your desired level of sharing.

  6. To control what people can do with your file after you share it, look to the right side of the same area showing who the link will share your file with and click the down arrow.

  7. Select the privileges you want to convey to people you are sharing the file with.

  8. In the “Get link” dialogue box, click on Copy link.

  9. The link is copied to your clipboard. Paste the link wherever you want to share it.

  10. Click the Done button.
