unless our hike is rained out, drivers will need a Kananaskis Conservation Pass on Monday for the cost of $15/vehicle. Details can be found here: https://conservationpass.alberta.ca/kcp. If you don't have a pass already, you should save the link—but don't commit to buying a pass yet. We will decide on Sun. night or Mon. morning.
Plan to spend a good deal of time outdoors in a shoulder season mountain environment regardless of the conditions. Dress in layers, and expect changes in the weather. Clothing suggestions:
casual, athletic clothing suitable for outdoor activities—that you don’t value greatly
fleece
wool
quick-dry clothing
long johns, tights, insulating base layers
warm jacket, sweater, warm socks, gloves
preferably (mostly) non-cotton clothing
rain gear—and possibly snow pants!
outdoor running shoes or hiking boots—that have already been broken in
running gear (optional… but early morning runs are the best)
sunscreen
hat with a brim / toque
umbrella (optional)
walking pole(s) (optional but useful)
bug spray (okay, that’s pretty optimistic!)
toiletries
towel (optional, if you think you'll be happy with the little white one the hostel gives you for the weekend)
ear plugs. you heard me.
mask(s) (optional)
extra snacks that you like
musical instrument
cards / board games / evening activities
a free knot reference app (Winkpass Knott Guide, Knots 3d, or similar)
binoculars for early morning birdwatching with Lee (optional)
