The General Education guidelines on the AIS website have some useful advice on administering any interdisciplinary teaching program; http://www.units.muohio.edu/aisorg/PUBS/reports/genedaccred.html
Key points stressed are
· The program needs an administrative leader whose primary focus is interdisciplinarity
· There should be broad input from interested faculty across units
· There should be an independent budget. Successful programs cannot rely on the generosity of disciplines
· There needs to be ongoing assessment
· There should be a clear administrative process for making program changes
· Faculty who teach in such programs but have disciplinary home departments need to be appropriately rewarded. Institutional structures that leave career decisions entirely in the hands of disciplines will not do so.
· The program needs visibility among both faculty and students
