Transition to Discipline (TD) - These EPAs are anticipated to be completed within the first 6 months of the PGY1 year, during the introduction to PM&R rotation as well as during off-service "basic clinical training" rotations.
TD1: Physiatry-focused history
Foundations of Discipline (FD) - These EPAs are anticipated to be completed during the PGY1 and PGY2 years, during acute care and off-service rotations in "basic clinical training", rheumatology, orthopedic surgery, and neurology.
FD1: Non-emergent medical/surgical issues
Core of Discipline (CD) - These EPAs include all essential PM&R core rotations, including in-patient rehabilitation, on-call situations for in-patient rehabilitation, acute care consultations for rehab populations, and both hospital-based and community-based ambulatory care. They are anticipated to be completed during the PGY3 and PGY4 years, with successful completion of this stage of training by the time of the Royal College examination.
CD1: Consultation/management of complex patient
CD2: Ongoing assessment/management of complex patient
CD3: Emergent/urgent medical issues in complex patient
CD4: Consultation/management of pediatric rehab patient
CD5: Performing physiatric procedures
CD6a: Interpreting EDX testing
CD6b: Selecting and interpreting physiatric investigations
CD7: Leading interprofessional meetings
Transition to Practice (TP) - These EPAs focus on learning opportunities to establish practical skills for transitioning to independent practice, and on the development of skills and behaviours for continuing professional development. They are anticipated to be completed in the PGY-5 year and candidates must be successful on all EPAs prior to becoming fully certified and progressing to independent practice.
