Matthew Bolton

Researcher. Analyst. Data Scientist.

Welcome

I am a researcher and member of the University of Alberta's Volcanic Ash Research Group (VARG, Jensen Lab). My current work focuses on using computational methods, including machine learning, to solve challenging problems in Quaternary science, tephrochronology, volcanology, palaeoenvironments, and natural history. I value critical thinking and pride myself in making connections between fields of research, methodologies, and points of view.

My interests are broad, including elements of:

  • earth science
  • modern- and paelo- ecology
  • climate science
  • past environments
  • natural hazards
  • landscape management and more

The theme that links all these aspects is making discoveries about and unraveling mysteries of the natural world to more wisely interact with it and its countless interconnected systems.

This site is where I showcase my research and publications, connect with colleagues, and share useful tools, code, and other resources. Use the sidebar menu to explore the rest of the website.

If you like what I present here and are interested in collaboration, learning more, or anything else, please reach out to me.
