INDSA, the Indian Students' Association at the University of Alberta, is a non-profit socio-cultural association within the student organizations at the University of Alberta, Edmonton. Started in 1991 as a small initiative, today it has grown to represent hundreds of students and alumni who form the nucleus of the Indian community in Edmonton and beyond.
The foremost design of the association is to preserve, nurture and extend the cultural traditions and colors of India within the university. INDSA celebrates the diversity of the Indian culture and invites members from across all nationalities to share the Indian experience with the association.
A family away from home, a place to share and celebrate, a platform to show your talents - the association is an effort to draw from each and every member the very best of the Indian culture and to share with the community at large, the myriad of colors and the rich heritage that embody India.
INDSA has always been like a family to the Indian students who are away from home and has helped them right from the point they arrive at the airport till they get settled in their new academic and social setting at the university. Our members have reciprocated by being a huge support in terms of participation and volunteering for INDSA events and activities.
To create and extend support for cultural awareness, provide a platform for participation in campus activities, establish contact with the Indian community, and promote international understanding and fellowship.
INDSA currently represents about 200 graduate and undergraduate students, faculty and alumni at the University of Alberta and is fast expanding with each coming year. Each year new students are provided with relocation support and basic guidance in their settlement through designated volunteers.
Our team consists of eleven executive members elected by the members of INDSA and students at University of Alberta. The committee works voluntarily to represent and is supported by the collective effort of all the members within the association. Current executives information: Pictures and names (2025-present).
Indian Students' Association (INDSA) is a socio-cultural student-run association that celebrates the joy of diversity in India and aims to help prospective students. Festivals, cuisine, dance forms, and Bollywood movies are some of the ways we bring people and our community together. It is open for everyone to join:) India has a huge diversity of cultures that speak various languages and follow different traditions. The presence of Indian students at the University of Alberta is commensurate in offering this diversity. It is for them, the rest of the students, and new incoming students at the University of Alberta who are interested in knowing more about India, that the INDSA brings about a reminder of the flavors of Indian music, myriad of colors, cuisine, Bollywood movies, and dance forms.
