Gourav Kumawat PhD Student (Physics and Astronomy) University of Alberta
Hi! I’m Gourav, a PhD student in the Department of Physics at the University of Alberta, where I study exotic stars in globular clusters under the supervision of Prof. Craig Heinke. I hold a BS-MS dual degree in Physics, with a minor in Data Science and Engineering, from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Bhopal.
My research focuses on understanding the formation and evolution of exotic stellar populations, including blue stragglers (and blue lurkers), quiescent low-mass X-ray binaries, millisecond pulsars, extremely low-mass white dwarfs, sub-subgiants, and cataclysmic variables, in dense globular clusters using multiwavelength observations ranging from X-ray to infrared.
When I’m not exploring the cosmos, you’ll find me playing squash, cricket, volleyball, or swimming. I also love cooking and writing poetry.
