Program Overview
Renewing a tradition of international pharmacy education, the Fall 2024 term marked the resumption of the Toho University and University of Alberta Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences visitation program. This program welcomes senior Japanese pharmacy students on a 4 week learning journey alongside current uAlberta pharmacy students.
Program Goals
To foster collaboration and sharing between pharmacy students and faculty members from Toho University and the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Alberta.
At the end of the visitation, students will be able to:
Describe the similarities and differences in pharmacy education between Japan and Alberta, Canada.
Provide examples of how community pharmacy practice in Japan and Alberta are similar or different.
Summarize the activities involved in provision of patient-centered care and a full scope of pharmacy practice.
Demonstrate appropriate use of pharmacy terminology in the English language.
Share examples of patient-centered care provided in community and hospital/institutional pharmacy practice in Alberta.
Appreciate opportunities for interdisciplinary practice in Alberta & Japan including pharmacy technicians and the patient’s role on the team.
