What’s one thing people don’t know about you?
Until recently, I had a pet hedgehog. People say a dog is a man’s best friend, but having a “spike mouse” around was wonderful. The best part? Hedgehogs are nocturnal, so I could be away during the day and still come home in time to hang out with her in the evening.
Fun fact: I used a toothbrush to clean her quills – naturally, with a little modified Bass technique!
A genie grants you one wish; what do you wish for?
To always get an extra chicken nugget every time I order McDonald’s!
What do you love about your profession the most?
What I love about dentistry is how it blends so many aspects of health care. We’re not just diagnosing, planning treatments, and performing procedures; we’re also getting to know our patients beyond the dental chair. It’s about understanding their lives, tailoring care to their needs, and providing oral health education along the way. That balance of skill and connection is what makes this profession so rewarding.
What are the most interesting parts of your job?
As VP Dentistry, one of the things I enjoy most is getting to connect daily with students and faculty from all across the board. Every class has its own dynamic, and everyone communicates a little differently, which keeps things interesting. That’s why I make it a point to try different approaches to ensure students feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with the DSA.
Finding common ground isn’t always easy, but that’s what makes it rewarding – it’s all about creating a space where everyone feels heard.
What did you enjoy the most about being a student at the School of Dentistry?
What I enjoy most about being a student is the strong sense of community. Whether it's chatting with classmates during early morning clinic, sim lab shenanigans, or attending class events, I always feel a sense of connection. Even the small moments like hearing Kim and Lori roll their cart down the hall with music, or chatting with the dispensary team make each day a little brighter.
The DSA events are also unforgettable, from the fun of O-Week to the professional events like Dentistry Formal. Beyond the friendships and memories, dental school helps me appreciate the process of learning. There’s a unique satisfaction in mastering new concepts and seeing progress in my work, and that feeling drives me to keep improving every day.
