Joint rounds are collaborative rounds that occur in conjunction with various specialties including cardiology, pulmonary medicine, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and anaesthesia.
The primary objectives of these rounds are to foster engagement across multiple sub-specialties and across disciplines. Joint rounds are held quarterly.
- Describe and distinguish key pleural findings to discern presence/absence of pneumothorax, cardiogenic and/or non-cardiogenic pulmomary edema.
- Describe landmarks of the pleural space to differentiate pleural effusion vs consolidation.
- Understand additional assessment tools for the thoracic space including gross quantification of pleural effusions and prevention of complications.
