This course takes the perspective that progress in psycholinguistics requires a transaction-based view on language processing, which is strongly dependent on data about the relation between language users and their environment. We will learn how to approach psycholinguistic questions by combining experimental data originating from laboratory studies and crowd-generated data with various sources of language data and techniques from network science.

The course will consist of the following modules:

1. An introduction to the transaction-based view on language processing.
2. Appraising and assembling large language resources – scraping data.
3. Understanding and designing crowd-generated data and crowdsourcing experiments.
4. Using graph theory and network science to extract meaningful information from experimental data and language resources.
