Please note: Kate and Shaheena only have access to the Bridging Divides grant and, due to the limited access, are unable to see all the projects for every PI. Given that, we will try our best to solve issues and help subject to certain limitations.
The FAQ will be continually updated as needed.
Contact Kate (and CC the administrator currently assisting you with hirings) regarding the new hire or rehire and include the following information in your email:
Name of Appointee
Position (Masters, Doctorate, Postdoc)
Salary (please use UAlberta’s Total Compensation Calculator to determine benefits)
Position start and end date
Meetings for the entire U of A team - contact Kate to arrange.
Individual Team/Subtheme meetings - feel free to arrange your own meetings, if you would like Kate’s assistance in arranging your meeting for you, please email Sandeep for approval first.
Every quarter, Shaheena will send each PI the financial position/breakdown of their yearly budget.
April-June: email will be sent in July
July-September: email will be sent in October
October-December: email will be sent in January
January-March: email will be sent in April
If you would like to purchase any new equipment, contact Kate with the specifics of each product you would like and she can assist with making those purchases.

Kate will help arrange all Bridging Divides related travel and accommodations.
For PI’s, please refer to “(How To Guide) Concur” on how to assign access and create an account. RA’s and Postdocs will be booked using a Maritime Travel agent.
If this expense is non-travel related, contact Kate and Shaheena, as they will have to determine if the expense is eligible and the speed code for the eligible expense.
If the expense was incurred during a work trip, refer to the “(How To Guide) Travel Expense Reimbursement.”
If you require a purchase that cannot be done in SupplyNet but is eligible, please contact Kate, as she is able to use her PCard for Bridging Divides related expenses (this includes approved purchases on behalf of students/RA’s/postdocs).

The focus of the newsletter is forn Bridging Divides U of A internal communications. Any events, research, or other announcements relevant to the University of Alberta team specifically can be included in the newsletter.
