Meet Pauleanne C.

"For the past eight months, I have been working as the Student Services and Engagement Intern for the Faculty of Arts Undergraduate Student Services at the University of Alberta. My responsibilities are divided between two portfolios: advising students and engaging with students.

I primarily advise students on their degree paths. This involves conducting drop-in advising sessions, responding to emails and phone calls, monitoring student forms, connecting students with other resources on campus, and much more. If you've visited the Arts Undergraduate Student Services this year, you've likely seen me at the front counter! Additionally, I am responsible for engaging with Arts students to enhance their student experience and bridge the gap between the Faculty of Arts and students. So far, I have organized events such as movie nights, tabling sessions, and a speed friending event. I have more events planned for the remainder of my work term, so keep an eye out for them!

Working for a faculty with over 7,000 students and offering more than 30 majors, I find it exciting to connect with students from diverse academic backgrounds. However, this can also get overwhelming at times due to the variety of questions students ask about their programs. I am fortunate to have supportive colleagues who are always willing to assist with any questions I may have about my role. I also appreciate how my job allows me to learn something new every day! Every job comes with its own challenges; it's simply a matter of being honest with yourself and not hesitating to seek help."

Pauleanne is a fourth-year Psychology student in the Faculty of Arts. She is also completing a Certificate in Community Service Learning, and a Certificate in Interdisciplinary Leadership Studies. In her free time, you can catch Pauleanne playing squash, volunteering in her community, or cooking Filipino cuisine!
