Interview with AI!

It is now clearer than ever that we need to integrate AI into our lives before it (potentially) overtakes them. When it comes to many aspects of our lives, AI can help with small tasks, like looking up recipes, and larger tasks, like preparing for interviews! The Career Centre has been pilot-testing InterviewPal, which is a program that enables you to create interview-ready responses, record them and receive real time, personalized written feedback through AI. You can participate in the testing by signing up for an InterviewPal account with your UAlberta email address.

OpenAI has also recently released GPT-4, and has enhanced the voice feature of their program. Users can now have real time conversations with AI, complete with a disturbingly realistic voice. This however can help to simulate an actual job interview with AI responding and giving feedback vocally after hearing your responses.

If you’ve ever found yourself worrying about your interview scheduled the next morning, you can open InterviewPal or Chat-GPT, input a short description of your job and ask AI to interview you and provide feedback.

Here’s an example of a prompt you could input: “I’m applying for [input job description here]. Can you pretend to be the hiring manager by asking me questions and providing feedback?”

The feedback feature of both programs will give you ideas on how to improve and what recruiters may be looking for in your responses. However, remember that AI results are only as good as the prompt you give it, so make sure to describe the job you’re preparing for as thoroughly as possible!

AI has the power to gather information in a matter of seconds, which will enable it to ask you some questions that are likely to come up in your interview and you’ll be more prepared than ever.
