Ghosting Isn't Cool, Even on Halloween!

Whether you have to cancel your meeting with the AWE team, your manager, or Dr. Frankenstein himself, be a good goblin and avoid ghosting them.

When you have committed to something (a meeting, appointment, event, etc.) but are no longer able to attend, it is important to let the host know as soon as possible. “Ghosting,” the term for failing to show up to something you have scheduled, can damage relationships, and may lead to tricks instead of treats this Halloween.

How can you avoid ghosting your manager, Work Experience Coordinator, colleague, prof, etc.? Email or call them as soon as possible to let them know that you are no longer available, and offer some alternative times to meet. If you were sent a Google Calendar invitation (or equivalent), you can decline that meeting in the app and add a message asking to reschedule.

Being accountable to others is a great skill to develop in university, as it will take you far in your career journey. Besides, there are far more original costumes to put on - if you plan on going out this Halloween night, leave that old bed sheet at home!
