Kim Waters

Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology

Congratulations to Kimberly Waters who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology double major! Kimberly completed an Arts Work Experience (AWE) work term with Cook Counselling! We caught up with them to talk about graduating and their U of A experience. Here is what they had to say:

How are you feeling about graduating?

Excited and relieved. I elongated my undergrad to seven years so it's difficult not to feel a sense of relief after so many years immersed in the rigour of my studies. I'm looking forward to life as a post-graduate, and I've made a list of the many skills and activities I wish to dedicate more time to. I'm also incredibly excited! I secured a position with the Government of Alberta back in April and have been working in the Ministry of Energy and Minerals since May 1. Transitioning into my new role has been so empowering and I'm grateful every day for the opportunity I have secured.

What is your favorite memory of being a student at the U of A?

Most of my favourite memories are not directly related to being a student at the U of A, but would not have been possible had I not been a student. My greatest takeaways are more high level, such as a love for learning, the sense of accomplishment I feel after I see a project come to fruition, or the many relationships I have had, or do have, with professors, peers, friends, and even roommates.

What are some of the key things you learned at the U of A?

Continued education can be fun, engaging, and enlightening; but it can also be gruelling, sacrificing, and draining. Balance won't always be easy but trying to find it, and sometimes striking it, is a skill that will carry you through the rest of your life. Keep your head up, you got this!

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

All the foreseen and unforeseen opportunities for continued growth and accomplishment. Traveling with my significant other, building a family, facing new challenges, revisiting old skills and making space for new ones. Celebrating every day, and striking a balance!
