Huyen Dang

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology

Congratulations to Huyen Dang who graduated  with a Bachelor in Arts Psychology! Huyen completed an Arts Work Experience (AWE) work term with Enbridge! We caught up with them to talk about their U of A and AWE experience. Here is what they had to say:

How are you feeling about graduating?

I'm excited to celebrate with my friends and family but at the same time, I can't believe it's been almost five years since I started university. I finished my coursework last December so I've had a bit more time to process it, but it still feels strange to not be a student anymore after having been one for most of my life.

What is your favorite memory of being a student at the U of A?

My favorite memories of being a student at the U of A were meeting people of different backgrounds and bonding with them over food. The U of A has a diverse community where I got the chance to get to know people from so many different corners of the world.I learned a lot about their cultures and I got to try their amazing foods!

Talk about your work term with AWE! What was your role and responsibilities? What did you learn?

I was a Summer Student in the Ethics and Compliance team at Enbridge. My main responsibilities were maintaining compliance data and monitoring changes in regulations and industry standards. What helped me succeed were the skills that I picked up during those classes like analysis and critical thinking skills. I've found this to be true again in my current role as well

What are some of the key things you learned at the U of A?

I learned to be more open-minded and go outside of my comfort zone. Looking back, I unexpectedly learned so many useful things from different opportunities here and there like volunteering, completing a certificate, or joining a sports team.

Do you have any advice for current students?

Try to keep an eye out for any opportunity to get involved in — anything that interests you. It doesn't always have to be something that you can put on your resume. You might be pleasantly surprised by what you pick up on just from meeting different people. Also take advantage of the AWE program and its resources. I found the career training opportunities to be particularly useful. It allowed me to think about what I might want to do after graduation and gave me an early start on my career.

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

I look forward to saving up and finally having the resources to travel. Oh and not having to stay up late to write essays!
