FAQs

I don't know anything about video. What can I do?

No previous experience is necessary! We’ll teach you how to report, write and edit for broadcast. Whether you anchored your high school broadcast or have never picked up a camera, we would love to have you on our team.

How do you train people with no experience?

One of our student producers explained NNN's training process in this Poytner article. Don't worry, we've got you!

Can first years join and contribute meaningfully?

Absolutely. First year students take stories, do live shots, anchor, and help in various production roles. Getting a newscast on the air is all about teamwork, and we wouldn't be able to do it without representation from every grade.

I want to join, but I don't want to make a commitment.

We completely understand. There's no barrier to entry. Join us for one week to try it out. There's no obligation or long term commitment (though we'd love to see you every week if you like it!). We even encourage prospective members to send us a DM or just drop by to get a better sense for what we do!

Do I need to be a student in Medill?

No. NNN members come from across Northwestern.

Do I need to have my own camera and gear?

No, we will provide you with everything you need to shoot, write, edit, and produce.

I want to join! How do I get started?
