The daily English Practice Corner and "Sentence of the Week" activity during our morning assembly represent the daily, immersive environment of Nanhsing ES, where language is woven into the very fabric of the school day. It’s about building a consistent, habitual practice. Our goal is to make English an unavoidable and enjoyable part of every student's daily routine, turning passive knowledge into active use.

what we do:

Sentence of the Week during Morning Assembly: Every Tuesday morning assembly, the entire school community is introduced to a weekly "Sentence of the Week". This sentence is then reinforced throughout the week in English classes and at the English corner.

The English Corner: This is a physical space that the school provided for students to visit during their long breaks. Grade 4-6 Students can play Word Master Game (a reading practice game for the Words of the Week from English Passport). They can also practice the Sentence of Week and engage on other games like spelling and wordwall games.

How to play Word Master:

There will be 15 words (Words of the Week from the English Passport) and 3 BANG! slips into the "Mystery Cup. Players could be 4-5 students per round. The first student pulls a slip.
The students must read the word aloud. If correct, they "keep" the word. If incorrect, they must put back the word
If a student gets a BANG! card, he must shout "BANG!" and return all their earned words to the cup.
The Winner: At the 2-minute mark, the student with the most words will be the winner and will be asked to answer the sentence of the week to get 2 "Word Master" stamp. The other players will get 1 "Word Master" stamp.

The "ALL ABOUT ME" Challenge

Welcome to our interactive All About Me Challenge! This activity is designed to help students build speaking confidence by sharing their personal stories in a fun, structured way. It aims to help students practice English speaking skills by following a guided path of 10 personal questions with sentence patterns from the Sentence of the Week.

📝 How to do it?

Prepare their script: Students use the "All About Me" worksheet to practice their answers.
Record their Video: Students film themselves answering all 10 questions.
Post to Padlet: Students upload the video to our official English Corner Padlet. They may watch your classmates' videos and leave a friendly comment to support them!
