Please be sure to be in uniform (with athletic tennis shoes for PE) each day. Students need to have a belt if the shorts, pants, or skirts have belt loops. Shorts and skirts must come past finger tips when standing straight/tall with hands by the side. Leggings are not permitted as part of the school uniform policy. Shirts need to be tucked in at all times.

A WATER bottle (LABELED WITH YOUR NAME) is very important to have in class as well as a HEALTHY snack each day. We have an earlier lunch, 11:12 am each day, so we will most likely be ready for a snack in the afternoon during our reading block.

We are able to have prepackaged foods to share (chips, crackers, cupcakes, cakes, desserts for birthday celebrations).

Please be mindful of our "nut allergy" in our class.

ELA (English Language Arts)

For the week of August 9 - 13

This will be our first two days together!!! I am excited to see you on Thursday.

Writing: We will take the concepts we have learned with planning an essay and apply those to actually writing the essay. We are beginning with picture prompts. The plan should take the students approximately 10 minutes to complete. This will allow them time to read the sources, continue finding the evidence that will support their Controlling Main Idea (CMI) and their Main Idea #1 and Main Idea #2. If they cannot prove, they must lose it.

We will continue citing our sources (giving credit to the author of the texts we are using to develop our essay). According to Source 1, The author from Source 2 demonstrated, or After reading "Slithering Reptiles", this shows .....

We will begin adding elaboration to our writing. The students will hear me say, Can you name one? What does that mean? Could you add an If ......., then ....... statement? Elaboration provides the reader more details to an essay. It is a way to put your voice into the writing.
