Dear Parents,

Today was an awesome day!! There were no numbers in agendas today because for the first two days of school this year, we'll be getting to know each other and developing our class culture.

However, getting into the swing of things is always a good thing, so I'll be putting up our weekly focus for Reading Unit 1 Week 1 for those of you that would like to get started on next week's skills.

Reading U1W1. Our focus will be on the following skills:

* Comprehension Strategy: Plot, Character, Setting and Events

* Comprehension Skill: Visualize

* Vocabulary Strategy: Inflectional Endings

* Grammar: Statements & Questions

* Text Features: Captions

* Story Genre: Realistic Fiction

* Anchor Stories: "Maria Celebrates Brazil" and "Big Red Lollipop"

In Math, we will be learning about place value. Also, students will be tested weekly on basic addition facts. This will be a 3-minute timed test will consist of 20 problems. If your child needs some additional practice you can visit www.mathfactcafe.com or www.themathworksheetsite.com.

In Social Studies, we will be learning how to be good citizens.

In Science, we will be taking a break.

Agendas:

Agendas will be coming home nightly. Please check and sign agendas everyday. This is where the students will be placing their behavior numbers daily.

Lunch:

Lunch is at 12:04 daily. We will be having a snack around 9:45 am everyday. Please make these healthy snacks something easy to eat as it is a working snack and we will not stop our instruction when it takes place.

Please remember Homework Folders are sent home on Fridays to give students a head start but the entire homework folder and assigned work (worksheets and reading log) are not due back until the following Friday.

*In order for students to receive full credit for the weekly homework, the work must be completed in it’s entirety. Since homework is usually assigned and sent home a week in advance, only late credit (60%) will be given for any (completed) work turned in on the Monday after the original Friday due date.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Have a Beautiful Day!

Love,

-Ms. Cruz
