Tuscalooosa Magnet Schools- Middle is an International Baccalaureate World School, a 2017 National Blue Ribbon School, and the 2021-2022 National School of Character. We teach our students to discover knowledge, to create new ideas, and to serve the community. It is the goal of the TMS-M comprehensive school counseling program is to support and serve students in all areas of academics, career, and social-emotional development.
The vision of the school counseling program of the Tuscaloosa Magnet Schools - Middle is that all students are intuitive, life long learners. They are respectful adults that serve their communities by reaching their greatest potential in life and career to create a peaceful, accepting world.
The mission of the TMS-M School Counseling Program is to provide all students with comprehensive counseling services to enhance their social/emotional development and academic and career success. The school counselor will advocate for all students to ensure that they have equal access to a quality education of high expectations by collaborating with all stakeholders. Every student will have equal access to the comprehensive school counseling program through tiered implementation of services and interventions, ranging from whole group, small group, and individual counseling services that promote equity in student achievement. Through the implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program, the school counselor will lead students through a process of self discovery and perseverance to reach their greatest potential in life and career to become life-long learners and citizens of society that create a peaceful, accepting world.
School counselors work diligently with all students to monitor and track academic progress. Student interviews and conferences are held quarterly to discuss student data and implement warranted interventions.
Classroom, small group, and individual lessons are conducted to teach students effective means of interacting and engaging with their peers and teachers. Lessons focus on communication skills, organization, goal setting, self advocacy, bullying awareness, and many others.
Students participate in activities and lessons that introduce them to the various career domains. Through interest surveys and career exploration activities, students are provided an overview of career pathways to help navigate their interests and future career options.
