Meet the Counselor
My name is Paige Yeager and this is my second year with the Tuscaloosa City School STARS Academy and my 12th year as a School Counselor. I believe that every child has the ability to succeed and achieve if they want to and every child deserves to have someone who believes in them! Let´s change this world!
What does a School Counselor do?
The mission of the school counseling department at STARS Academy is to provide all students access to a comprehensive program and to equip them with the skills necessary to achieve academic, personal/social, and career excellence. The ultimate goal of the program is for each student to leave with the knowledge, attitudes and skills to be lifelong learners who are able to make self-directed, realistic and responsible decisions.
What does that mean?
It means that from the moment that you enter our doors until the minute that you walk out, we are here for you! If you need personal help, got it; academic help, no problem; help with a problem at home, tell me; we are here for you!
STARS Counseling Belief Statements:
Every student can learn, and every student can succeed.
Every student should have access to a school counseling program.
Effective school counseling is a collaborative process involving school counselors, students, families, teachers, administrators, other school staff and education stakeholders.
School counseling programs promote and enhance student academic, career and social/emotional outcomes.
All students should be treated with respect no matter their race, culture, gender, religion, etc.
Every student should have access to and opportunity for a high-quality education.
STARS Counseling Vision Statement:
All students from STARS Academy realize their worth and potential, and are life-long learners who make a positive impact on both their home and global communities. They use their unique skills, attitudes and resilience to accept changes and pursue both short and long -term success. They break down barriers, overcome adversity, and create futures that exemplify responsibility, independence, and prosperity.
STARS Counseling Mission Statement:
The mission of the STARS Academy School Counseling Department is to inspire and equip all students to pursue academic, career, and social/emotional success. This comprehensive program utilizes data-informed activities, district and community collaboration, and equitable access to all students to best equip them to become positive leaders and resilient life-long learners. By challenging each student to overcome personal barriers and limits and pursue independence and success, students will achieve a solid foundation on which to thrive and accomplish anything. Our school counseling program partners with our school and district to advocate for equity, access and success for all students.
