Day 9--9/01/14 Nature hike & Moose on the loose!
We started out the day going on a ranger-guided hike at Laurance Rockefeller Preserve. The 3 mile loop took us out to Phelps Lake and back. Our ranger guide, Katie, highlighted the interconnected natural communities of sagebrush meadows, forests, wetlands, creeks and lake that make up the ecosystem of the preserve.

When we returned to our inn we took a walk on the nature trail located on the property. We were pleasantly surprised when we came upon a moose grazing on the trees and plants. We were able to follow and observe the moose through the thick growth in the woods. The moose then moved on closer to the inn and we were able to move to the deck and watch it from approximately 30 feet for another half hour. What a thrill! At one point while watching the moose in the thicker woods it actually came to within 10 to 15 feet of us. At that point we slowly headed in the opposite direction because we weren't sure the moose knew we were there.
