Day 8 - Seattle
The photo below is our last evening view of Vancouver. We had such a great time staying at BayView at Green Gables West that we hated to leave this morning. We felt so welcome and comfortable right from the start and left feeling like long time friends rather than guests. But journey on we must!
We headed back to the USA and had a 62 minute wait at the border crossing. The agents had the "sniffing" dogs out giving some vehicles a closer inspection.
We will be staying the next 3 nights at Chelsea Station B & B in Seattle. It is located in a residential area and has four units which are like small apartments. They are beautifully decorated and have many amenities including breakfast served in your suite. Nice!
We were blessed with another clear and sunny day in the upper 70's. The weather was perfect for our visits to the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, fish ladder, and Kerry Park. The locks connect the saltwater of the Puget Sound to the fresh water of the Ship Canal. We watched some boats pass through the locks and then made our way to the fish ladders.
The fish ladders were built to allow the migrating salmon a way to enter their fresh water spawning grounds from the Puget Sound. The fish ladder has an underground viewing room where you can watch the salmon take a breather between each level of the ladder steps.
We then made our way to Kerry Park with its unsurpassed view of Elliott Bay and the Central City. Today's clear weather provided an awesome view of Mount Rainier in the background.
