Immediate Effects of low reactive level laser onMuscle Fatigue

There have been many reports of low reactive level laser therapy(LLLT)having various effects such as the promotion of wound healing, anti-inflammatory effects, pain relief, and the inhibition of muscle fatigue. However, few studies have considered the immediate effects of LLLT on muscle fatigue. If an immediate recovery effect from muscle fatigue can be provided, then this could be applied in sports scenes, which would not only improve athletesʼ performance but also prevent disabilities. In this study, the researcher experimentally created muscle fatigue in the forearm and examined the immediate effect of applying LLLT on muscle strength, which was used as an index. The study employed a method that focused on the forearm muscles in the non-dominant arms of 18 able-bodied men, who were divided into three groups of six:(1)control group,(2)group in which LLLT was applied to three points, and(3)acupoints group. As a result, the group in which LLLT was applied to three points significantly recovered grip strength five minutes after fatigue was created(42.1±6.2 kg) compared to immediately after it was created(29.1±3.1 kg). It is considered that the application of LLLT calmed the sympathetic nervous system, improved blood circulation, reduced creatine kinase(CK)-a substance that may contribute to the fatigue process-and promoted ATP synthesis. This means that the application of LLLT can be expected to provide immediate recovery from muscle fatigue after exercise.
