HOST A STUDENT FOR FIVE NIGHTS IN MARCH 2025!
Tulsa-Area Families,
Would you be interested in hosting a 14-year-old Japanese student (or one of their adult chaperones) for five nights? This homestay program is designed to accommodate families who have a busy working lifestyle, and it’s a perfect opportunity to experience hosting without a lengthy commitment. Your household need not speak any Japanese, and we'll get you up-to-speed on cultural matters!
As a part of Tulsa Global Alliance, the Tulsa-Utsunomiya Sister City Partnership coordinates a short Study Abroad program for Japanese students, and we're always happy to welcome new host families!
We have male and female students coming, and we’ll aim to pair appropriately for your family. The students are accompanied by 3 adult chaperones. By this age, the students have studied English for 2 years, so they’re able to speak and understand basic sentences. Nevertheless, in case of an emergency, we have their chaperones and our committee as a translation and cultural resource.
We will provide more orientation-style information for families that express interest. Thank you for your consideration! We're excited to continue this tradition and bring this opportunity to our Tulsa community.
Program Overview: March 21st to March 26th, 2025
Friday, March 21st: Pick up student at Tulsa International Airport.

Monday, March 24th: The Japanese student will accompany a host student at school. If you do not have a similarly aged child to chaperone the Japanese student at school, we will find a shadow student at a local school.
Tuesday, March 25th: The committee will take all 15 Japanese students and their Japanese adult chaperones on a tour of Tulsa! Tour activities will likely include the Tulsa Zoo, Philbrook Museum, scenic Tulsa landmarks, and more. Our committee covers lunch, admission costs, and transportation for this day. After the tour of Tulsa, we host a Farewell Dinner during which all students and host families will gather and meet. In years past, the students have performed songs and given short speeches. Afterwards, we bestow Honorary Tulsan Certificates provided by the Mayor's office.
