Meet the Staff


Jocelyn Gross has been teaching music at Tulpehocken since 2013 and is the director of both the Middle and High School Choruses.  In addition to producing musicals, she is the director of all three Show Choirs at "Tulpy." She has traveled with the Show Choir to perform in Boston, Williamsburg, and Disney.  

Mrs. Gross earned her Bachelor of Science in Music Education and is currently working on earning her Master's from Wilkes University. She loves working alongside the amazing musical staff and being a part of putting incredible shows on stage.  When she isn't making music, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends.  



Alexis Jenofsky has returned to Tulpehocken for year 6 to work with the talented students and wonderful musical staff. Outside of Tulpy, she works full time as the Director of Communications for the Upper Perkiomen School District.

Alexis has traveled and worked internationally in England with the English Touring Theatre and in India teaching theatre to young students at the Shanti Bhavan residential school. She has worked alongside Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Lynn Nottage and Broadway director, Kate Whoriskey on an immersive transmedia project exploring the decline and rebirth of Reading, PA, as well as taught courses at the Yocum Arts Institute for Arts Education. For 5 summers, Alexis served as the Summer Musical Director at Olivet Boys and Girls Club Center for the Arts and assisted in the programs earning the Pennsylvania Partners in the Arts (PPA) Best of the Best award.

Alexis earned her Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Albright College and currently in progress of earning her Masters in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University.


Vocal Director

Derrick L. Thompson is a native of Madison Heights, Virginia. He is an active recitalist, chamber musician, and operatic performer. Dr. Thompson made his professional vocal debut in 2007 with the Opera on the James (Lynchburg, Virginia) as the Duke in Gounod's Romeo et Juliette. He spent his 2010-2011 season as the artistic director and conductor of the Tianjin Concert Hall's Mulan Children's Choir (Tianjin, China). Dr. Thompson's conducting career continues to grow as he serves as a guest conductor and clinician for numerous district, county, and all-state choral performances. He remains an active researcher in the field of choral and vocal music. His research interest involves developing the young singing voice, communication in the choral rehearsal, and teaching methodologies for the choral and applied voice setting. Dr. Thompson taught in the Virginia school system for eight years, teaching elementary general music and conducting middle and high school choirs. He has served as an adjunct faculty member at Lynchburg College and Teachers College, Columbia University, and as the Music Program Director and Director of Choral Activities at Delaware State University. Dr. Thompson currently serves as Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Albright College.


Pit Director

Mia Till is a composer, concert pianist, and MTNA certified music educator who recently relocated to the Lebanon area of Pennsylvania. Till completed her Masters of Music Composition degree from Butler University in 2020, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano Pedagogy and Music Arranging from Maranatha Baptist University with a secondary study in voice in 2017. She enjoys being involved with community choir, including directing the Primo Coro Ensemble with the Hancock County Children’s Choir in Indianapolis during the 2019-2020 season, and singing with the Rivertree Singers in Greenville, South Carolina, during the 2021-2022 season. One of her most recent compositional undertakings is Bathsheba the Musical which premiered by numerous musicians from the Indy area in the summer of 2020. Till serves as staff composer for the Hancock County Children’s Choir and provides private piano, voice, and composition instructions to students from PA and across the U.S. through virtual lessons. She is ecstatic to get to be part of this year’s musical team at Tulpehocken!



Melanie Long is returning for a 7th year as the costume director; she began at Tulpy with the musical Shrek and is excited to be working with the students again. In addition to her work at Tulpehocken she has spent several years assisting with costuming at Born to be Different Productions. Professionally,  Melanie has been a sewist for over 20 years; creating custom clothes in her studio Coup de Foudre Design in Bernville. In her free time, Melanie enjoys traveling and spending time with her seven children. 



Roy Mendez is a current Junior at Albright College, and is a Theatre Major. They are a dancer of 10 years and an actor for 12. For most of his life he’s been involved with Music, Dance, and Theatre as a whole, and loves to teach Improv and Dance. He started his official choreography journey choreographing The Little Mermaid Jr. and has never looked back since!

Outside of the theatre world Roy is very involved at college, being the president of two clubs and involved in their Dance Team. Roy is very excited to be involved with Tulpehocken and learn about everyone and work together! 


Set Painter

Sami Livingston is a recent graduate of Albright College, and is the recipient of a degree in art and psychology as of May 2021. She aspires to be an art therapist some day, but is currently taking time to practice her skills and develop her craft. She has been coming to see the musicals at Tulpehocken for a few years, and is very excited to be welcomed as the set painter for their upcoming musical Beauty and the Beast!


Lighting Director

Matthew Shirk  has been doing musicals and fall plays at Tulpehocken since 2003. He started on stage in 8th grade as Randolph in Bye Bye Birdie. While doing the show he learned quickly that he enjoyed the technical side of shows and started learning Sound and Lighting and has been doing that ever since. When not doing shows Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, baby girls, and 2 dogs. He also enjoys playing Fast Pitch Softball and Soccer.
