This project involves a single-storey side extension to an existing semi-detached three storey house with the basement. There were numerous challenges involving the presence of the basement abutting the extension, the proximity of trees and the existence of manholes and drains within the extension footprint.
The design took into account all the existing constraints while respecting the Client brief and complying with the Building regulations. A deep trench fill foundation provided the necessary support to the RC suspended slab which in in turn was fixed with dowels back to the existing wall. A concrete lintel bridged the slab above the existing drainage pipes to avoid exertng amy loads on them.
