Mrs. Heckaman's Counselor Page
I am at Wyandotte full time and work with your student in many ways. Classroom lessons are a great way for me to teach our students skills related to personal/social development, academic skills, and college/career readiness. My lessons are designed to align with the National Standards of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
My motto is, "Helping students achieve to their fullest!". While I enjoy working with students of all ages, I am passionate about early intervention. I believe in teamwork to help our students achieve success. It really does "take a village"! You know your child best, so please feel free to contact me if you have concerns you would like to discuss.
Serving our students well means that I have many roles. In addition to providing classroom lessons, I work with students individually and/or in small groups. Students may request counseling themselves by putting a note in the counselor’s box or asking their teacher if they can see me. The parent/guardian of a child, teacher, administrator, or Response to Intervention Team may also refer a student. Individual school counseling is short term and if ongoing therapy is indicated I will help facilitate a referral to an outside mental health agency.
Many things can impact achievement whether it is a personal, social, emotional or academic concern and I look forward to providing support and encouragement to your child.
The best way to reach me is by email: firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your child's first and last name, teacher's name, and a phone number where you can be reached. I will always try to get back with you in a timely manner. You may also leave me a phone message at 765-772-7007 if I am unable to take your call.
It's going to be a GREAT year!
Kathy Heckaman, MS., LSW., NCC.
