Mrs. Brooks  

 Hello! My name is Jerilyn Brooks and I am the Student Services Coordinator at Burnett Creek Elementary. This role is very similar to a School Counselor.  I am a licensed Social Worker that assists children and families in a variety of ways.  Students and I meet individually, as well as in groups, to build social and emotional skills. My hope is that they will learn how to advocate for themselves, find their inner peace and feel safe learning here at school. I also assist families in locating resources in the community such as food banks, outside therapy, and support services. I LOVE working at Burnett Creek because we have built a wonderful school community with the help of amazing teachers and staff, families and kids that make us smile daily. Go Bobcats!  

I also run a program at BCE called the Goodwill Ambassadors. This program teaches kids about our school’s lifelines and how to apply them in life. Students who are chosen as Goodwill Ambassadors stand out because they do the right thing, treat people right and set a good example for others. The Ambassadors help with a variety of school functions including our holiday bizarre and school tours.  I love watching these kiddo's blossom into leaders!

So, here’s a little more about me. Over the last 20 years, I’ve worked in the Social Services field.  I graduated from Purdue University in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Psychology.  I returned to school in 2009 and completed my Master’s Degree in Social Work from Indiana University. Although IU provided me with a fantastic experience, I will always be a Boilermaker at heart!! Boiler up!!

My husband, Chad, and I have two amazing kids: Forest who is in 6th grade and Brynlee who is in 2nd grade. We also have a fur baby that weighs more than my kids! His name is Vader and he is a 3 year old Rottweiler. We are a very active family that enjoy doing anything outdoors including camping, fishing, concerts, sporting events, kayaking and swimming.
