CUBBY: a small, snug place 💛
Welcome to the Battle Ground Elementary/Intermediate School Counseling Website!Â
I am Deanna Bibler, and am fortunate to be the School Counselor supporting our school community.Â
I have been in education for over 20 years and am a proud former teacher and parent at BG;                   therefore, I can definitely tell you that BGE is the place to be! To me, every person associated with our school, whether they are students, parents/guardians, or other staff provide a unique contribution to our community.Â
I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University                                              and my Master's Degree in School Counseling from Indiana State University.                                   (I know, I know... but my husband is a Purdue grad :-)                                                                                                                                                                                  Â
I believe communication is essential in our success together so I encourage you to contact me for any supports I may provide. Â
HOW I WORK WITH STUDENTS
CLASSROOM GUIDANCE LESSONS
Throughout the school year, it is my goal to be able to get into each of the classrooms one to two times a month. The lessons that I will share with the students will be based upon the needs of the students to help them grow in a meaningful way. This is a great way for me to be able to work with all of the BG students. These lessons incorporate the Indiana School Counseling Competencies for Students. The theme for grade levels will be decided upon in collaboration with the teachers to help focus on an area of growth for that grade level.
Possible themes might include:
Giving Best Effort
Being a Good Friend
Diversity
Healthy Friendships
Accountability and Independence
College and Career Readiness, Being Independent
SMALL GROUPS
I facilitate small groups throughout the school year meeting four to six times for each group.
These groups will be determined from data compiled from surveys given to individual students, as well as data collected from BG staff and/or parents/guardians. If invited for a small group, a permission slip will be sent home with your student prior to the group starting; with the exception of emergency situations that occur.Â
Small groups are a way to help students grow and form connections with other students. If students are asked to be a part of a small group, it is an opportunity for them to be able to grow in their life skills while working in a smaller and more personal setting.
Please contact me if you have a topic that you think your student would benefit from in a small group!
INDIVIDUAL
If you, or a staff member, think your student is in need of one-on-one counseling, I am able to provide brief, individual counseling to students. I will support the student to help overcome any challenges they are facing.
I will work with students to develop skills to be able to cope with and overcome adversity that they are facing. The length of this individual counseling will vary and could last from 6 to 10 weeks.
Please feel free to contact me if you feel that your student would benefit from meeting individually.Â
You can also fill out a Google Form by CLICKING HERE to request for me to meet with your student. If challenges are beyond my expertise, I will provide community referral options for additional supports.  Â
