As you are aware, we have new Digital Literacy and Computer Science standards to implement this coming school year. There are 5 Strands in the DLCS: Computational Thinker, Computing Analyst, Innovative Designer, Citizen of a Digital Culture, and Global Collaborator. In each newsletter, we will highlight one of these strands and challenge you to post about it on Twitter!
This week we are going to break down what it means to be a Citizen of a Digital Culture.
As Citizens of a Digital Culture, students verbalize the impact of computing in a global society while safely, securely, ethically, and legally interacting with digital environments and protecting their digital identities. Subtopics include Safety, Legal and Ethical Behavior, Digital Identity, and Security, Systems, and Impact of Computing.
So what does this look like in the classroom? Students are responsibly using technology and devices while learning how to keep themselves safe online.

First up, we will break down Global Collaborator. In order to be Global Collaborators, students use appropriate digital tools for their age range to communicate data that informs, persuades, and/or entertains to collaborate with society both locally and globally. Students need opportunities to connect with others locally and globally, giving each the opportunity to learn together, share knowledge, and develop cultural understandings and relationships. So what does this look like in the classroom? Students are collaborating with each other or students across the globe. Technology is the conduit that provides easy-to-implement experiences and opportunities for teaching and learning.
