Hello!

My name is Taylor Newton and I am excited to be working with our Foothill Ranch Middle School, families, and staff. This is my third year with Twin Rivers Unified School District and my fifth year as a professional school counselor. I have helped students from preschool to Doctorate programs, in rural and urban settings. I have seen it all and strive to reach all members of the community through my work as a counselor.

A little about me...

I am a SoCal native who has relocated to NorCal. Prior to being in Sacramento, I called Big Bear Lake home  for 2 years and before that I was in Orange County, CA for 8 years. The decision to leave the Big Bear Lake was not an easy one, but when the opportunity presented itself to live in Sacramento , my husband and I took it!

I started my professional journey in education at the college level, working as a counselor at Concordia University Irvine. While working at Concordia, I earned my Master's degree in Psychology from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology with research and dissertation focused in Social Emotional Learning Research and Development in K-12 settings. From there I found a real passion in delivering social and emotional counseling and pursued my licensing to be able to work in the public school setting. I enrolled with Alliant International University where I earned my Masters in Education: School Counseling and took the required licensing  exams for my Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling.

Over the course of my 8 years in the OC, I partnered with the Orange County Rescue Mission: Village of Hope. Located on a decommissioned military base, the Village of Hope is a transitional housing program for homeless men, women and children. I worked primarily in the Learning Center with K-8 populations providing small group counseling rooted in the Collaborative for Social Emotional Learning (CASEL) competencies: Self Awareness, Social Awareness, Self-Management, Responsible Decision-Making, and Relationship Skills and evidence-based practices.

When I am not at work, you can find me out exploring with my Goldendoodle Ollie, cooking a new recipe, or searching out a brand new coffee spot!
